About Me

Woman with pink glasses and brown hair with a bookshelf and potted plant in background.

I’m Lorraine Delp, a book editor and publishing coach who works with authors of fantasy, romance, and science fiction novels. I’ve been doing this for nearly fifteen years and still can’t believe I get to play with words for a living.

As an editor, I’m dedicated to helping authors write their best drafts, whether that involves polishing grammar and spelling or diving deeply into elements like character arcs, plot, and theme.

As a content manager, I create order out of chaos by establishing and refining processes, managing projects, and communicating with stakeholders to achieve goals on deadline.

As a publishing coach, I help you create a path to publication that works for you and your goals. Whether you’re crafting query letters or figuring out the steps to self-publish you book, I’m here to help!

Experience

Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked in book publishing, marketing, software as a service (SaaS), education, and digital media. From developing an idea into a first draft to proofreading a final manuscript before it goes to print, I’ve done it all (and loved it all).

Some of the highlights:

  • Writing 176 articles for the BookBub Blog
  • Having my poetry featured in an anthology
  • Leading a team of editors at a tech startup
  • Creating a house style guide from the ground up
  • Speaking at a conference for editors
  • Helping grow a newsletter’s subscriber base from 0 to 10,000

And I could go on!

Education

I have a BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a MEd in Teaching from the University of Arizona. My background in education means I know how to build relationships with the authors I work with, creating a safe space for you to share your goals with me so we can work together to make them happen.

Core Values

Collaboration — I seek to understand your vision and goals so we can work together to strengthen your story while preserving your unique style and voice.

Education — I explain the reason behind each edit and suggestion so you can make an informed decision about what makes sense for your book.

Clarity — I keep lines of communication open so you’re informed and comfortable every step of the way.

Excellence — I research and learn about the industry so I can provide you with excellent, accurate guidance.

Kindness — I believe in leading with kindness and respect. My goal is to create a safe space between author and editor where I can give genuine and honest feedback to help you reach your goals.
